STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 9 Stanford University men's volleyball team fell to the No. 2 Hawai'i Warriors, 3-0 Saturday night in Maples Pavilion. Game scores for the match were 30-21, 30-18 and 30-24. The Cardinal fall to 5-9 on the season and 3-7 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. With the win, the Warriors improve to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in MPSF play.

The Warriors raced out to an early lead and led 27-14 late in game one. The Cardinal battled back running off six straight points to cut the Warriors lead to 27-20. That is as close as the Cardinal would get as Hawai'i responded with a 3-1 run to close out game one. Sophomore outside hitter Ben Reddy paced the Cardinal with three kills.

Hawai'i woul take game two, 30-18. The Warriors hit a blistering .739 for the game, while the Cardinal hit .240. Redshirt junior setter Kevin Hansen paced the Cardinal with three kills in three attempts. Juniors David Vogel, Pat Bomhack and Craig Buell each added two kills in the game.

The Warriors once again grabbed the early lead, but sophomore outside hitter Nick Manov brought the Cardinal within three at 17-14 with a kill. That is as close as the Cardinal would get as Hawai'i would go on a 13-10 run to close out the game.

Sophomore William Clayton provided the Cardinal with a lift off the bench, finishing with six kills in nine attempts. Buell added six kills, while hitting .667 for the match. Hansen finished with a mtach-high 27 assists to go along with five kills and seven digs.

The Cardinal hit the road for two games at BYU on February 20-21. Stanford's game on the 20th versus the Cougars is slated to start at 7:00 pm, while their game on the 21st will start at 8:30 pm and will be televised on CSTV.
