Erin Merriman Wins Javelin Competition at Rafer Johnson Invitational

Westwood, Ca - Erin Merriman, a junior from Spokane, Wa, threw the javelin a season-best 150-2 (45.77m) to win the competition on Friday at the Rafer Johnson Invitational at UCLA's Drake Stadium.

Merriman's throw was only four inches short of her career-best set last year against California in the Big Meet. Merriman's effort was not only a Pac-10 qualifying mark, but a NCAA regional qualifying standard as well.

In other action on Friday, Kitty Currier finished fifth in the women's discus (137-6, 41.90m), William O'Neil placed fifth in the men's discus (155-8, 47.44m) while O'Neil was ninth in the shot put (49-3 1/2, 15.02m).

In competition on Thursday at the Rafer Johnson Invitational, Sarah Hopping placed fourth (186-6, 56.84m), Donielle Collich placed seventh (178-8, 54.45m) and Jessica Pluth was eleventh in the hammer (167-5, 51.04m).
