April 13, 2004

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford senior catcher Jessica Allister has been named the Pacific-10 ConferenceSoftball Player of the Week, and Washington junior Ashley Boek has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 6-12, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Allister, from Nacogdoches, Texas, had a solid week at the plate for the Cardinal, going 7-for-9 (.778) with five doubles and one RBI. Allister posted a 1.333 slugging percentage and an .800 on-base percentage in the Cardinal's series against Bay Area rival, California. On Apr. 9, Allister was 3-for-3 with three doubles as Stanford beat the Bears 5-3 in Berkeley. She then followed up that performance a day later, as she was again 3-for-3 at the plate, with a double. She concluded the weekend series by hitting a double on Sunday. Allister strung together six consecutive hits over the first two games against the Bears.

Boek, from Redding, Calif., led the Huskies to a pair of victories over No. 2 UCLA over the weekend. On Apr. 9, Boek threw all seven innings, scattering four hits, striking out six and allowing just one run. Boek came into Saturday's game (Apr. 10) in relief in the fifth inning with two runners on base and no outs, trailing 3-1. Although two runners did cross the plate, Boek kept the game within reach. After a fifth inning rally by Washington, Boek stuck out five of the next six Bruins to earn her second win of the weekend over UCLA. Boek gave up just one extra-base hit against UCLA in 38 at-bats and held the Bruins to a .105 batting average. For the week, she boasted a 0.70 ERA, allowing just one run over 10 innings pitched and recorded 11 strikeouts.

This is the first weekly honor for both Allister and Boek. This is the 22nd weekly award all-time for the Cardinal and it is the 53rd all-time in Washington's history.
