Austin, Tx - The Stanford women's 1,600 meter relay team ran the sixth-fastest time of the day on Friday to advance to Saturday's finals at the Texas Relays.
Stanford was timed in 3:37.50 to advance with eight other teams into the final. Texas produced the best time at 3:30.92.
Solomon Welch enjoyed a busy day. Welch finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 48-7 1/2 (14.82m). Earlier in the day, Welch finished 13th in the long jump at 23-2 (7.06m).
Janice Davis ran a time of 12.08 in the 100 meter prelims but did not advance to Saturday's final.
Stanford athletes competed in two events during first day competition at the Texas Relays on Thursday. The women's 4 x 800 meter relay team of Katie Hotchkiss Cherise Thompson, Ashley Freeman and Nashonme Johnson finished sixth in a time of 8:53.43. Texas won the event in a time of 8:33.49.
In the women's 400 meter hurdles, Lindsey Johnson placed 17th in a time of 62.15. Raasin McIntosh of Texas won the event in a time of 56.57.
Competition continues through Saturday.

Triple Jump - 6. Solomon Welch (Stanford) 48-7 1/2 (14.82m); 1. Jason Powell of Rice won the competition at 50-8 3/4 (15.46m)
