LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - The second-seeded Stanford women's water polo team downed No. 7-seed Hawaii 10-3 in its first game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Friday at the U.S. Water Polo National Aquatic Center. The win improves the Cardinal record to 19-3 this season.
After a close first quarter, Stanford out-scored Hawaii 5-1 in the second to grab a commanding 6-1 halftime lead.
The Cardinal went on to tally four more goals in the second half to clinch the win.
Stanford was led by Scotti Shafer with three scores, followed by Katie Hansen with two goals.
Goalie Meredith McColl allowed three goals and tallied seven saves.
Stanford will face the winner of No. 3-seed UCLA vs. No. 6-seed California in semifinal action at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.
