STANFORD, Calif. - Sarah Kate Noftsinger has joined the Stanford women's soccer staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2004-05 season announced head coach Paul Ratcliffe today.

"Sarah Kate is a very talented young coach," Ratcliffe said. "She has great knowledge of the game and will be an excellent addition to our coaching staff."

A graduate of Wake Forest with a bachelor's degree in sociology, Noftsinger became the first Demon Deacon female athlete to be drafted by a professional sport when she was the No. 22 pick in the 2002 Women's United Soccer Association player draft. She went on to play midfield and forward for the 2003 Founder's Cup Champions Washington Freedom.

As a four-year starter, Noftsinger continues to hold single-season records in game-winning goals, assists and games played at Wake Forest. She finished her career tied for fourth place in school history with 81 career games played and fifth all-time with 70 career games started.

She coached the Gunston-Team America Soccer Club as the Under-9 Boys Premiere Coach and the U-17 Boys Premiere Assistant Coach from 2002-03. Noftsinger also ran weekly sessions for the Massachusetts Premiere Soccer Club and helped organize clinics for the Washington Freedom Player Development Academy.

Most recently, Noftsinger was a member of the marketing department for PUMA North America. She primarily assisted with athlete marketing and contract negotiation, while helping to develop advertising for sport campaigns.
