Kirk and Gill each earned numerous All-America honors in their Stanford careers.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--The 2003-04 Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners were announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Stanford winners included swimmer Tara Kirk and gymnast Dan Gill.
The Conference Medal winners will be honored at the State Farm Pride of the Pac-10 Luncheon held in Los Angeles in conjunction with the Pac-10 Men's Basketball Tournament next March.
Kirk is a 16-time All-American, an 11-time NCAA Champion and a 14-time Pac-10 Champion for the Stanford women's swimming team. She currently holds the world record in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:04.79), a mark set at the 2004 NCAA Championships as the only swimmer to post a world record at this year's event.
The senior from Bremerton, Washington also holds six American records (50 meter breast, 100 yard breast, 100 meter breast, 200 yard breast, 200 meter breast and 400 yard medley relay), and boasts numerous NCAA, Pac-10 and Stanford records. Kirk is the only swimmer to have won the NCAA title in the 100 breast for four-straight seasons. For her efforts this season, she was named the 2004 NCAA Swimmer of the Year. Kirk won each of the 35, 100-yard breast races she competed in during her four years as a Cardinal.
Gill, Stanford men's gymnastics team captain this past season, earned nine All-America honors during his tenure on The Farm. At the 2004 NCAA Championships, Gill helped Stanford to an eighth-place finish and led the squad with second-place finishes in the all-around, on the pommel horse and on the horizontal bar, a fifth-place finish on the vault and a sixth-place finish on floor exercise.
Gill was crowned the 2002 NCAA Vault Champion. He is a member of the USA Senior National Team for the second time and stood out as the only NCAA eligible athlete on the national team this year. At the 2004 World Cup competition in Lyon, France, Gill was the only American to earn a medal with a third-place finish on the horizontal bar. He was also a member of the bronze medal winning 2003 USA Pan American Team.
