Sept. 10, 2004

Box Score

Columbia, Mo. - Stanford earned its second win of the season as junior Leah Tapscott (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) scored the game-winning goal in the 39th minute to give the Cardinal a 1-0 victory over Missouri at the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium tonight. The win boosted the Cardinal's record to 2-2, while the Tigers dropped to 2-3.

Missouri held a slight advantage, out-shooting Stanford, 15-11, but the Cardinal capitalized on an offensive flurry late in the first half as Mizzou's freshman goalkeeper Laura Buehrig left the net to deflect a cross and Tapscott was able to redirect the ball into the cage.

Senior Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) earned her first shutout of the season and the 30th of her career this evening. The co-captain also picked up five saves on the night.

Stanford will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Sunday, as the Cardinal close out its two-week road trip at Nebraska. The Huskers dropped their Friday night contest against Pacific, 2-1, giving Nebraska a season mark of 3-2 (their only other loss was to top-ranked North Carolina in their season opener).
