Senior outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani notched a match-high 21 kills as the 13th ranked Stanford women's volleyball team defeated Western Kentucky, 3-1, in their opening match of the Wildcat Classic in Evanston, Illinois. Game scores were 18-30, 30-25, 30-18, 30-15. The Cardinal improve to 5-2 on the year while the Lady Toppers fall to 8-1.
The Cardinal rebounded from a sluggish first game to take the next three and win the match. They hit .392 for the match while the Lady Toppers hit .250.
Sophomore Kristin Richards added 13 kills to the Cardinal effort with a team-high 14 digs. Nnamani and Richards tallied five and four blocks respectively as well.
Lyndsey Broerman led Western Kentucky with 14 kills while libero Ashly Miller tallied a match-high 22 digs.
Stanford (5-2) takes on Villanova (3-4) this evening at 5 p.m. CT in continued tournament action.
