Box Score

Notre Dame, Ind. - Third-ranked Notre Dame converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute tonight to edge Stanford, 1-0, on Alumni Field at the Notre Dame adidas Classic. The Cardinal falls to 1-1-0 on the season, while the Irish improve to 3-0-0. Stanford goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) faced a barrage of shots throughout the night and picked up six saves during the match.

"The team played very hard tonight," noted head coach Paul Ratcliffe after the game. "It's disappointing to lose on a penalty kick, but Notre Dame is a very athletic and very talented team. It was a good test for us. Hopefully, we can rebound from this on Sunday and get rid of the frustration. SMU is a good team and it's going to be a challenging game, especially on the road, but it's another great test for us early on."

The Irish out-shot Stanford, 17-3, but picked up their only goal when forward Annie Schefter converted a penalty kick at 81:57. Notre Dame keeper Erica Bohn recorded two saves and posted her first shutout of the season with 90 minutes in goal.

Stanford will take on SMU at 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Sunday. Earlier tonight, second-ranked Santa Clara defeated the Mustangs, 2-1 in double overtime. Live stats will be available through Gametracker during the match.
