Stanford, Calif. - Stanford (1-3) suffered a 2-1 loss to Boston University, its third one-run loss of the season, despite a strong second half Saturday at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf. Boston University jumped out to a 1-0 lead just before halftime when Amy Seaman scored unassisted at 34:06. The Terriers picked up another goal just after halftime at 36:00 when Jen Joyce scored on an assist from the top of the circle by Colleen McClay. Stanford's Jessica Zutz scored her team-leading third goal of the season on a beautiful give-and-go from Katherine Brooks at 58:12 but the Cardinal was unable to tally again.
"I'm thrilled with our effort today and the way we hung in there until the end against a good team from Boston University," said Stanford head coach Lesley Irvine. "It encourages us to play well in this game and help us understand that we have the ability to outplay teams like this."
