Goal In Final Minute Gives Southwest Missouri State 3-2 Win Over Stanford

Springfield, Mo. - Gabby Gomez scored an unassisted goal with just under a minute remaining in regulation at 69:08 following a penalty corner to lift Southwest Missouri State (7-3, 3-1 NorPac) to a 3-2 victory over Stanford (5-8, 0-4 NorPac) in a NorPac field hockey contest at Plaster Field on Saturday. The victory gave the Bears a two-game sweep of the Cardinal and extended their season-long win streak to five in a row, while Stanford's season-long losing streak now stands at four. Stanford has been edged in six of its eight defeats this season by a single goal.

Stanford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Saturday when Jamie Hais picked up her first career points, scoring on an assist from Katherine Brooks at 17:05.

Gomez scored the first of her two unassisted goals at 26:10 to tie the contest at 1-1.

Adrien Trumpy gave the Bears their first lead of the contest when she scored on an assist from Bryndis Henrikson early in the second half at 42:42, putting Southwest Missouri State ahead by a score of 2-1.The Cardinal tied the score at 2-2 late in the contest when Missy Halliday tallied unassisted at 64:32 before Gomez broke the deadlock with her game-winner.

Southwest Missouri State finished with a 19-7 shot advantage and had eight penalty corners compared to two for the Cardinal. Trumpy attempted a game-high six shots for the winners, while Hais and Liz Robinson tried two each for the Cardinal.

Jessie Lininger improved to 7-3, picking up a pair saves in the winning effort. Ana Kralovec (5-8) had a game-high seven saves but took the loss.

Southwest Missouri State's Andrea Huskey had the game's lone defensive save.

Stanford will conclude its current three-game trip with a non-conference contest versus NorPac East member Saint Louis on Monday, October 4 (1:00 pm, CT). Stanford will return to the Bay Area when the Cardinal plays Boston College in a neutral site game in Berkeley on Sunday, October 10 (2:00 pm, PT).
