Los Angeles, Calif. - A first-half goal by co-captain Marcie Ward (Alamo, Calif./Carondelet) gave Stanford a 1-0 win over the Women of Troy at USC this afternoon. Ward converted the goal off a cross from junior Leah Tapscott (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) to score in the 34th minute at McAlister Field.
Ward's fellow co-captain, Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), picked up four saves during the match,
Stanford is now 10-4-2 overall, after finishing the weekend with a 1-1 split in Los Angeles, holding even in the Pac-10 at 2-2-1. The Trojans fall to 9-6-1 overall, with a 3-3 mark in conference play.
