Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford posted its third-straight win with a 1-0 victory over Oregon State to wrap up the 2004 home season at Maloney Field this afternoon. Junior Leah Tapscott (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) scored her fifth goal of the season to help the Cardinal improve to 12-4-2 on the year, with a 4-2-1 mark in Pac-10 play. The Beavers fall to 8-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference action.

Tapscott posted the game-winning goal in the 27th minute today, after senior Emilee Shim (Atlanta, Ga./Marietta) took the ball over a pair of defenders and crossed it to the far side of the box. Stanford kept the offensive pressure high in the second, posting 9 of its 14 shots in the last 45 minutes.

Oregon State had a pair of fast breaks in the first half that resulted in solid shots, but failed to find the net. Beaver goalie Melissa Onstad picked up four saves, while Cardinal keeper Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) recorded one save and her eighth shutout of the year.

Stanford will wrap up the regular season next weekend, as the Cardinal heads to Washington to face the Huskies on Friday at 5 p.m. before challenging Washington State at noon on Sunday. The Cardinal will then look to the post-season, as the NCAA will announce the tournament field and site selections on Monday, Nov. 8 at approximately 1:30 p.m. on ESPNews.
