STANFORD
* Stanford improved to 27-5 in Regional and Super Regional games (all at home) since the Super Regional format began in 1999. Stanford had a 12-game win streak in NCAA Regional and Super Regional games played at Sunken Diamond snapped when the Cardinal lost by a score of 7-4 to Long Beach State earlier in the day in a winners' bracket game, as well as a 10-game string in Regional games on The Farm.
* Despite a 7-4 loss to Long Beach State in the winners' bracket game on Saturday, Stanford has still won four of its last five games against Long Beach State. Stanford had winning streaks of four games overall and four games in the postseason over Long Beach State snapped with Saturday's loss as the previous Long Beach State victory over Stanford came when the 49ers picked up a 5-1 win in an NCAA Regional game at Stanford on May 23, 1998, knocking the Cardinal out of the Regional. Stanford still leads the all-time series between the clubs (in the era of Mark Marquess since 1977) by a count of 5-2.
* Stanford has swept a doubleheader only once on the final day of a Regional to advance in the NCAA Tournament. On May 27, 2001, Stanford swept Texas (May 27, 2001; 10-9, 10 inn.; 4-3) to advance to the NCAA Super Regional and eventually to the College World Series, where Stanford eventually finished as the CWS runner-up after losing in the CWS championship game by a score of 12-1 to Miami.
* Stanford improved to 29-4 at Sunken Diamond this season and has won 38 of its last 42 games at home overall.
* Matt Leva (9.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, career-high 5 SO) pitched his first career complete game and the third by a Stanford pitcher this season in his first career postseason action. Leva's longest previous career outings came when he lasted 4.0 frames in a pair of starts at Arizona (May 17, 2004) and versus USC (May 23, 2004). Leva improved his record to 6-1 as he is tied for third on the club in victories.
* Jonny Ash extended his hit streak to seven games.
* Sam Fuld picked up the 356th hit of his career to move within 12 of all-time Pac-10 and Stanford leader John Gall (368, 1997-2000). Fuld played in his 252nd consecutive game and made his 169th straight start.
* Jed Lowrie (2-5, HR, RBI), John Mayberry, Jr. (2-5, 3B, HR, 3 RBI), Chris Minaker (1-3, HR, 2 RBI) all hit their first career postseason home runs. Lowrie's home run was his team-leading 17th of the season, while Mayberry went deep for the 15th time.
* Brian Hall (3-4, SB) had three hits and stole his team-leading 15th base of the season.
* Stanford's has an updated all-time postseason record of 114-55 (.675), including a 62-22 (.738) mark in Regional action.
* Stanford is now 1-1 versus St. John's during the Mark Marquess era (1977 - current). St. John's had won the previous meeting between the teams in a first round NCAA Regional game in 1998 in New Britain, CT, before the Cardinal stormed back to win the final four games of the Regional before moving on to Omaha to win its second consecutive College World Series.
* Stanford's three home runs moves its season up to 94, ranking second on Stanford's all-time single-season list and just eight shy of the school record.
* Stanford had 11 hits in the game to record its 43rd double-digit hit game in 59 contests this season.
* Stanford's pitching staff held an opponent to five runs or less for the 41st time in 59 games this season.
* Stanford played errorless baseball for the 24th time this season.
ST. JOHN'S
* St. John's finishes the 2004 season with 37 wins, the most since the 1980 team won 40 and advanced to the 1980 College World Series.
* St. John's is now 53-51 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
* The Red Storm are 1-4 in tournament play under Ed Blankmeyer.
* Eight different St. John's players finished the season with batting averages of .300 or higher.
* The Red Storm finish the season with a 3.86 earned run average, the best in nine years under Blankmeyer.
* Junior Jim Martin had a 16-game hit streak ended tonight.
* Sophomore Greg Thomson batted .583 in the three Regional games, going 7-for-12 at the plate, with four doubles and three runs scored. He had three multi-hit games this weekend.
* St. John's tied its season-high with five errors. They are 0-5 now when committing four or more errors in a game.
