STANFORD
* Stanford had its school record string of five consecutive appearances at the College World Series snapped when the Cardinal dropped the first championship game of the NCAA Regional by a score of 8-4 versus Long Beach State.
* Stanford finished the 2004 season with a 46-14 overall record, extending the team's string of consecutive 40-win campaigns to 10. Stanford has posted 11 straight winning seasons, as well as 39 of 40 and 56 of 58.
* Stanford had a string of eight consecutive elimination game victories in Regional and Super Regional action snapped dating back to its last elimination game loss in a Regional or Super Regional when Long Beach State beat the Cardinal by a score of 5-1 on May 23, 1998, knocking Stanford out of a Regional at Sunken Diamond.
* Stanford's 16-8 mark in 24 Pac-10 games gave the Cardinal its second straight outright Pac-10 title. Stanford has won 20 conference crowns (18 Pac-10) in school history. Stanford has been either first or second for 11 straight years and 22 times in the last 24 seasons.
* Despite the loss, Stanford finished the season with a 29-5 record at Sunken Diamond this season and has won 38 of its last 43 games at home overall.
* Jonny Ash finished his career with an eight-game hit streak by picking up a third inning single, while Brian Hall had a second inning single to end his career with at least one hit in each of his last six contests.
* Sam Fuld finished his career as Stanford's all-time leader in runs scored (266) and at bats (1071), while ranking second in hits (357) and games played (260), as well as tied for third in triples (16) and tied for sixth in doubles (58). Fuld's final collegiate batting average checked in at .332. He also played in 253 consecutive games to complete his career and started his last 170 contests.
* Jed Lowrie's final .399 season batting average checks in at eighth on Stanford's all-time list. Lowrie was 1-for-4 in the season finale Sunday as his average dipped three points. Lowrie was named to an NCAA All-Regional squad for the second time in as many seasons. His 72 runs scored tied for 10th on the school's all-time single-season list.
* Chris Carter was named to an NCAA All-Regional squad for the second time in his career, as he led Stanford regular with a .357 batting average.
* Stanford finished the season with 96 home runs to rank second on the school's all-time list and just six shy of the school record 102 hit in 1997.
* Stanford has an updated all-time postseason record of 114-56 (.671), including a 63-23 (.733) mark in Regional action.
* Head coach Mark Marquess completed his 28th season at Stanford with an overall record of 1190-565-5 (.678). He is 107-48 (.690) all-time in postseason action and 63-23 (.733) in Regional play.
* Stanford is now 5-3 versus Long Beach State during the Mark Marquess era. The Cardinal had won four straight meetings between the teams (all in the postseason) over the last two years and ended Long Beach's State season on both occasions.
