Berkeley, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford opened the season today at Haas Pavilion, dropping fifth-ranked California by 2.075 points. The Cardinal took first place on five of the six events, as freshman Sho Nakamori claimed the top spot on floor exercise, parallel bars and high bar.
Nakamori posted a 9.4 on floor, a 9.5 on p-bars and a 9.65 on high bar to earn first place on three individual events and help Stanford to the win. Fellow freshman David Sender posted a top-three finish on five events, claiming first place on vault with a 9.5, second place on floor with a 9.35 and third-place finishes on pommel horse with an 8.8, rings with a 9.6 and high bar with an 8.95.
Stanford placed at least two in the top-three on four events, including a sweep of the top-three places on still rings, with Peter Derman and Alex Schorsch tying for first place with a 9.65 and Sender taking third.
The Cardinal (1-0) will be back in action this Saturday, as they host to the Cardinal Open. The meet is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
