Stanford, Calif. - Stanford dropped its second contest with Cal State Northridge 1-3 Thursday at Burnham Pavilion. The Cardinal kept the score close in all but one game, dropping to 3-5 (2-3 MPSF). Injuries to key players Ben Reddy, Nick Manov, and Josh Schwarzapel are forcing the Cardinal to grow up fast, playing several reserves against MPSF opponents who are at full strength. "Even though we might not be as deep as the other teams, we could have played better," explained head Coach Don Shaw after Stanford gave up 60 points on errors.
After a slow start in game one, the Cardinal evened the score in game two behind the serve of freshman Matt Ceran. With the game deadlocked at 19, the Cardinal went on a five point run in route to a 30-27 win.
The Cardinal dropped game three committing 13 errors in a 16-30 route, before the Matadors closed out the match with a 26-30 win.
