Men's Gymnastics Hosts Alumni Meet

Jan. 8, 2005

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford gymnastics fans got an early look at the 2005 men's squad at the third annual alumni competition at Burnham Pavilion on Saturday evening. Cardinal alum Dan Gill, the 2004 Nissen-Emery award winner, served as the guest announcer for the event and judged the alumni events.

The current Stanford squad was split into two teams, the Cardinal and the "Farmhands," making it a hotly contested triangular meet. The alumni recorded a team score of 175.024, aided by the generous judging of Gill. The Farmhands finished second with a score of 156.700, followed by the Cardinal with a team score of 153.300. It marked the third straight season that the alumni emerged victorious at the event.

The Cardinal varsity showed their skill as well, and several gymnasts got a wealth of experience in the meet. Freshman Sho Nakamori was impressive in numerous events, receiving a 9.500 on the parallel bars and a 9.400 on the high bar for the Cardinal squad. Freshman David Sender also impressed, scoring a 9.300 on the floor exercise and a 9.200 on the rings for the Farmhands.

Competing for the alumni were Dave Durante, Jason Biltz, Rico Andrade, Paul O'Leary, Matt McLean, and Craig Nesbitt. Andrade and Biltz received 10.0 scores on both the parallel bars and high bar, while Durante received a perfect score on the high bar.

The varsity men will next compete in Burnham Pavilion January 21-23 at the Cardinal Open.
