Stanford Falls To No. 14 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Salim Stoudamire had 20 of his 26 points in the secondhalf, and No. 14 Arizona ended Stanford's four-year run of success in Tucsonwith a 90-72 victory on Saturday.

Channing Frye had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Hassan Adams and Chris Rodgersscored 13 each and Ivan Radenovic had 10 points.

Frye also tied his season high with four blocks, leading a strong defensiveeffort that lifted the Wildcats (19-4, 9-2 Pac-10) to their 16th win in 18games and earned coach Lute Olson his 299th conference win - second only toJohn Wooden's 304.

Dan Grunfeld had 23 points for the Cardinal, Chris Hernandez scored 13 andMatt Haryasz had 12 before fouling out.

The Cardinal (12-9, 6-5) had beaten Arizona their last four trips to McKaleCenter and won their last three against the Wildcats overall.

Stoudamire, who was 5-of-9 on 3-pointers, came out of the game after histhree-point play lifted Arizona to an 88-66 lead with 2:16 left.

The Wildcats began the second half with an eight-point lead and never letStanford get closer.

Frye found room underneath for a layup with 15:04 left for a 51-38 lead,matching Arizona's biggest of the first half, and added a three-point play 36seconds later for a 54-40 lead.

Then Stoudamire scored seven points in a 2:56 span, sending the Wildcats toa 73-53 lead with 8:40 remaining and making up for the absence of Frye, whopicked up his fourth foul with 11:16 left.

Arizona used an 11-2 surge in the first half to open up a close game.

Radenovic made a layup with 7:49 remaining to start the run, and Fryecompleted it with another layup after a spin move in the lane, giving theWildcats a 33-21 lead with 5:13 to go.

Adams turned a steal into a layup during the spurt and did the same with1:39 left to open a 40-27 lead.

But in the final 21 seconds, Hernandez made a 3-pointer and Jason Haas stolethe ball at midcourt and sank a buzzer-beating layup to get the Cardinal within42-34 at halftime.
