Stanford Women's Gymnastics Defeated By No. 20 Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team fell to Arizona in Tucson on Friday evening, 195.225-193.725. Freshman Tabitha Yim captured first on both the uneven bars and the balance beam, while junior Glyn Sweets tied for first on vault for the Cardinal.

The No. 20 ranked Wildcats (10-4, 3-1 Pac-10) remained undefeated at the McKale Center this season, winning the vault and floor exercise events, and tying with the Cardinal on the balance beam with a team score of 48.775. Stanford (1-3, 1-2 Pac-10) set a team season-high in winning the uneven bars, edging Arizona 48.925-48.900.

Freshman Tabitha Yim was outstanding in her second meet of competition, capturing first place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.925, and taking first on the balance beam with a score of 9.875. Junior Glyn Sweets received a 9.825 on vault, tying with Arizona's Jamie Schell for first place.

Junior All-American Natalie Foley competed in the all-around for the first time this season, placing third with a score of 38.875. Foley finished second to Yim on the balance beam with a 9.850 mark, and placed third on the uneven bars with a score of 9.825.

The Wildcats captured five of the top six spots in the floor exercise, with the highest Cardinal finisher being freshman Stephanie Gentry, who tied for third with a score of 9.725. Freshman Lauren Elmore was the only Stanford gymnast besides Foley to compete in the all-around, placing fifth with a score of 38.350.

Cardinal freshman Liz Tricase, the squad's top all-around performer so far this season, did not compete against the Wildcats.

Arizona senior Monica Bisordi, aided by a second place finish in the floor exercise, posted a score of 39.200 to claim the all-around title. Senior Jamie Schell, who tied with Sweets for first place in the vault competition, finished second in the all-around with a score of 39.075.

The Cardinal returns to The Farm next Friday to host defending national champion UCLA in a dual meet at the newly renovated Maples Pavilion.
