Stanford Women Capture MPSF Title For Third Straight Season

Seattle, Wa - Janice Davis captured the 60 and 200 meters, freshman Erica McLain set another school record in the triple jump, and the Cardinal women's indoor track & field team captured seven first place honors to win the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship for a third straight season.

The Cardinal tallied 180 1/2 points to easily outdistance second place California with 94 points.

The Stanford men's team also performed well with a second place finish (93 1/2 points). UCLA won the team title with 117 1/2 points.

Davis, a sophomore, won the 60 meters in a time of 7.34 and the 200 meter title with a time of 23.87. McLain won the triple jump with a school record effort of 45-7 1/4 (13.90m). McLain's mark was also an NCAA automatic qualifying effort. Other first place titles were picked up by Nashonme Johnson in the 400 meters (54.61), Arianna Lambie in the mile (4:39.01, NCAA provisional time), Sara Bei in the 3,000 meters (9:13.86, NCAA automatic time), and the 1,600 meter relay team (3:38.51) of Chinny Offor, Christine Moschella, Nashonme Johnson and Ashley Freeman.

Ashley Freeman gained an NCAA provisional time in the 800 meters (2:08.65). Katy Trotter (9:23.41), Alicia Craig (9:27.02) and Anita Siraki (9:29.77) all had NCAA provisional times in the 3,000 meters.

Several Cardinal men athletes gained NCAA automatic or provisional times or marks. Curtis Goehring ran an NCAA provisional time of 47.04 in the 400 meters. That time was also second-best in school history. Russell Brown and Joaquin Chapa ran NCAA provisional times of 4:01.98 and 4:03.89 in the mile, respectively. In the 3,000 meters, Ryan Hall and Neftalem Araia ran NCAA provisional times of 7:56.74 and 7:57.89 in the 3,000 meters, respectively.
