Las Vegas, Nev. - Five current Stanford gymnasts are competing at the 2005 Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nev., where six new National Team members will be named, in rank order, from the combined all-around results of both sessions. Stanford graduate Dave Durante took first place in the all-around with a 53.815 to earn one of the six spots.
David Sender finished in 13th place with a 49.364 all-around score, with a first-place finish on vault with a 9.683. Sender also finished in the top 20 on floor and rings, with an 8.4 and an 8.433, respectively.
Dylan Carney and Jason Shen tied for 16th place in the all-around, as they both posted a 48.732. Carney tied for fourth place on rings with a 9.4 and added a 13th-place finish on high bar with an 8.7. Shen put up an 8.433 on parallel bars to finish in 13th place on the event.
Sho Nakamori put up his best mark with an 8.8 on parallel bars, good for fifth place. Chris Harper also competed on pommel horse and parallel bars, scoring an 8.233 on the p-bars to finish in 17th place.
Durante posted to-five scores on pommel horse, rings and p-bars, with a 9.266, a 9.25 and an 8.916. The former Cardinal also posted top-15 finishes on floor, vault and high bar to take the top spot in the overall competition.
Tomorrow, Sender will compete in the individual event finals on vault, while Nakamori will compete on the parallel bars. Session III is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
