David Sender Wins Vault Title at Winter Cup

Las Vegas, Nev. - Freshman David Sender won the individual event final on vault at the 2005 Winter Cup tonight, posting a 9.6 - the highest score on any apparatus tonight.

Sender and fellow freshman Sho Nakamori both earned the right to compete on the second day of competition after posting top finishes in the all-around yesterday. Sender won the vault competition in the preliminaries last night with a 9.683. Tonight, Nakamori finished in seventh place on the parallel bars tonight, scoring a 7.7.

Stanford graduate Dave Durante also competed tonight, posting top finishes on three events during the qualifier last night as he took first place in the all around and earned a spot on the U.S. National Team. Durante posted a second place finish on p-bars, a fifth-place finish on rings and a sixth-place finish on pommel horse.

Stanford will be back in action on the collegiate level next week when the fourth-ranked Cardinal travels to Berkeley on Saturday to face off against No. 7 Cal and No. 3 Ohio State at 7 p.m. It will be the third match-up this season between Stanford and Cal.
