Stanford Women's Gymnastics Finishes Second At San Jose State

San Jose, Calif. - Junior Natalie Foley captured second in the all-around and freshman Tabitha Yim placed first on the uneven bars and balance beam to lead the Stanford women's gymnastics team to a second place finish in a tri meet at San Jose State on Saturday night. The host Spartans took first place with a team score of 194.325, while the Cardinal registered a team score of 192.750 and California came in third with a 176.450 mark.

The Cardinal took first place on vault, as Foley and freshman Stephanie Gentry tied with San Jose State's Michelle Minotti for first place with identical 9.800 scores. Foley tied a personal season-high with the score, and freshman Alex Pintchouk registered a 9.700 score to help the Cardinal win the event with a 48.425 mark.

Stanford was led on bars by Yim once again, as the freshman captured first place with a 9.875 score. Foley finished second with a personal season-high score of 9.850, and Pintchouk rounded out the top-three with a 9.750 mark. The Cardinal posted a team score of 48.850 on bars, easily out-distancing San Jose State who finished second with a 48.175 score.

Yim and Foley both registered strong performances on the balance beam, with Yim setting a team season-high with a 9.925 score to capture first place. Foley matched a personal season-high score to place third with a 9.850, and Gentry also matched a personal season-high with a 9.800 to finish sixth.

The Cardinal struggled in the floor exercise, posting a season-low 47.050 team score. Freshman Aimee Precourt was Stanford's top finisher, placing seventh with a 9.600 mark. Foley tied for eighth on floor with a 9.575 score.

Foley was Stanford's top all-around finisher, capturing second place with a 39.075 score. It marked the fourth straight meet that Foley had finished with an all-around score of 39.000 or higher.

Stanford travels to Berkeley for the Pac-10 Conference Championship next Saturday. The Cardinal is the defending Pac-10 champion, having won the conference crown in Tucson last year.
