Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford Varsity Sailing Team is in finalpreparation to host the annual St. Francis Intersectional Regattathis weekend at St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. St. FrancisRegatta is the largest regular-season event on the west coast forcollege sailors. This year's event features competition between 24coed college teams and 8 women's teams.

Races will be held Saturday and Sunday in the legendary sailingwaters of the San Francisco Bay, just outside the harbor in theMarina District. Viewing will be spectacular from the point of landjust beyond St. Francis and Golden Gate Yacht Clubs. Teams will haveidentifying letters on their sails to make spectating easier. Racingwill begin at 11:00 am on Saturday and continue until 4:00 pm.Sunday's racing will commence at 10:00 am and continue through 4:00pm. Awards will be at 5:00 pm Sunday at St. Francis Yacht Club.

Unique to West Coast events is the tradition of running Women's teamsin races with the Coed teams. A Women's team is comprised entirely ofwomen, sailing in both A and B Divisions (at least 4 women). A coedteam can be made up of any combination of men and women. St. Francisregatta is a great example of this tradition, with 8 women's teamscompeting on the same starting line with the 24 Coed teams.

Managing this huge fleet in what promises to be typical heavy-windracing conditions, Race Committee duties will be handled by Stanfordalums and friends, lead by Sailing Team alum Jeff Condon '01.
