Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

Stanford, Calif. - No. 16 Oregon State (26-4, 5-0 Pac-10) swept a Pac-10 doubleheader over No. 10 Stanford (18-11, 3-2 Pac-10) with a couple of close victories over the Cardinal at Sunken Diamond on Saturday, 9-7 and 11-10. Jacoby Ellsbury's two-run single in the top of the eighth inning drove in the tying and game-winning runs in the opener as the Beavers scored three times in the eighth and added another insurance run in the ninth. Stanford led 9-2 in the nightcap before Oregon State stormed back, getting the eventual game-winning run and capping a four-run seventh frame when Chris Campos scored all the way from second base on a wild pitch after a strikeout that would have been the third out of the inning.

"It's obviously tough any time you lose a league game, especially when you are swept in a doubleheader," said Stanford head coach Mark Marquess. "The league is so tight and close, you need to try to get every win you can, and that's what we need to try to do tomorrow."

Oregon State jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings in the opener before the first career grandslam for Chris Lewis (2-4, HR, 4 RBI) in the fourth and a two-run shot by Chris Minaker (2-5, HR, 2 RBI) in the seventh helped stake the Cardinal to a 7-5 advantage.

Oregon State scored its first run in its three-run eighth when losing pitcher Blake Holler (5-1) walked pinch-hitter Lonnie Lechelt with the bases loaded. The rally started when Shea McFeely reached on a one-out error by Cardinal third baseman Adam Sorgi.

Ellsbury (2-4, 2B, 4 RBI) had a multiple-hit game and drove in four runs for the Beavers, while Danny Anderson (3-5) produced a game-high three hits.

Jim Rapoport (2-4), Jed Lowrie (2-5) and John Hester (2-5, RBI) each added a pair of hits for the Cardinal, who outhit Oregon State by a 12-10 count.

Oregon State starter Dallas Buck earned the victory to improve to 7-0 despite allowing season-highs of three earned runs, seven runs and 11 hits. Nate Fogle (0.2 IP, 1 SO) got the final two outs for the Beavers for his fifth save of the season after Pac-10 save leader Kevin Gunderson had allowed the winning run to come to the plate.

In the nightcap, Stanford went ahead by a score of 9-2 after the first three innings before Oregon State came back for its season-best ninth straight win. The Beavers tallied four runs after the first two hitters were retired in the fourth, added one more in the fifth and then capped their comeback with their four-run seventh.

Ellsbury (3-5, HR, 2 RBI) and Tyler Graham (3-6, RBI) had three hits each to pace a 17-hit Beaver attack. Four players - Ryan Gipson (2-3, SB), Shea McFeely (2-4, HR, RBI), Campos (2-5, 2B, 3 RBI) and Geoff Wagner (2-5, 2 RBI) - added two hits each.

John Hester (2-2, HR, 3 RBI) homered and drove in the three Cardinal runs in the second game. John Mayberry also drove in three and doubled, while Chris Minaker (2-4) and Michael Taylor (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI) had multiple-hit contests.

Eddie Kunz (1-0) was credited with the win for the Beavers, recording the final out in the bottom of the sixth inning prior to the Beavers' four-run seventh. Kevin Gunderson (3.0 IP, 1 BB, 4 SO) recorded his Pac-10 leading seventh save by keeping the Cardinal off the scoreboard and without a hit over the final three frames.

Greg Reynolds (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 2.2 innings of middle relief.

The teams will conclude the series on Sunday (1:00 pm, PT). Oregon State is scheduled to start RHP Jonah Nickerson (6-0, 1.17), while Stanford has not announced a starting pitcher.
