Stanford, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford picked up its 16th win of the season and 45th-consecutive victory with a 7-0 victory over 33rd-ranked Arizona State this afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.
The Cardinal kicked off the afternoon match, which is part of the 2005 Spring Smash presented by Zoom Marketing, with a doubles sweep. Freshman duo Whitney Deason and Lejla Hodzic scored an 8-4 victory before 38th-ranked Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey added an 8-6 decision to clinch the doubles point. Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette, ranked No. 12 in the nation, needed a tiebreaker to get past No. 21 Lauren Colalillo/Kady Pooler, but the Cardinal pair did so with a 9-8 (7-2) victory.
In singles action, Hodzic picked up the first finish with a 6-3, 6-4 win and Barnes finished moments later with a 6-2, 6-2 decision. Yelsey picked up the deciding victory, with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the five-spot before Erin Burdette tallied a 7-5, 6-0 win at court two. Logar added a 6-4, 6-3 win and Deason completed the Cardinal sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
Stanford will wrap up the Spring Smash presented by Zoom Marketing with a dual against No. 49 Arizona tomorrow at 12-noon at the Taube Tennis Center.
