West Point, N.Y. - Stanford men's gymnastics concluded the 2005 collegiate season this weekend at the NCAA Championships on the campus of the United States Military Academy. Stanford finished fourth at the NCAA Qualifier on Thursday night, ending the team's season, but Dylan Carney, Nate Downs, Sho Nakamori, David Sender and Jason Shen each continued on to Friday night's individual event qualifier.
Stanford qualified individuals on each apparatus for Friday's event qualifier and filled out the vault rotation, with Sender, Nakamori and Carney each going on. The Cardinal sent two competitors on floor, pommel horse and high bar and Sender was the lone qualifier on rings and p-bars.
Sender, who competed on five of the six events on Friday, was the only Cardinal to advance to competition on Saturday on the parallel bars in the Individual Event Finals. Sender finished in the top-15 on floor, rings, vault and high bar, just missing the cut on all events except p-bars. On Saturday, Sender posted an 8.925 on the event to finish in 10th place.
Stanford's collegiate season is finished, but individual Cardinal gymnasts will continue to compete during the off-season in national and international events.
