The Stanford Women's Crew team will face California this weekend in the annual Big Row. Racing will depart from its usual morning hours to a prime time slot in hopes to create more of draw to the event.
The event will be kicked off by the novice women's four consisting of Nadia Shaikh, Claudia Skieller, Ortiz, Adassa Richardson, and Christine Vucolova. This will be the first time that this group has competed in this lineup.
The second women's event will feature the varsity four which includes Nadia Shaikh, Lola Feiger, Rachael Vemon, Nicole Pierce and Michelle Rameriez. This boat competed for the first time in this lineup last weekend versus LMU and UCLA.
Next up for the Cardinal women will be the second varsity eight. This lineup consists of Jen Brown, Christina Liebner, Liz Harrison, Laura Creager, Alexis Peterson, Jessica Hernandez, Lani Marsden, Claire Sadler, and Jessi Reel. The Stanford second varsity has a dual racing record of 5-1 and a third place finish (out of 18 boats) and the San Diego Crew Classic. The California second varsity finished five seconds ahead of the Cardinal in first place at the San Diego Crew Classic in their only match-up of this season.
The final race of the day will feature the #9 Stanford women's first varsity eight. This lineup incudes Kelly Garneski, Missy Fiesler, Sam Magee, Stephanie Morrison, Stephanie Connolly, Carly York, Margit Zwemer, Kerry Birk, Susan BeVille. The Stanford first varsity has a dual racing record of 6-0 and a second place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic. These races include wins over six crews that were ranked in the top 20 coaches polls. The California first varsity is ranked #2.
This will be the final dual race of the season honoring graduating seniors Kelly Garneski and Missy Fiesler. Garneski has raced in two NCAA Championship's and has two bronze medals from the Pac-10 Championships in the women's second varsity event. Garneski plans to attend medical school next fall.
Fielser has rowed in the varsity boat all four years and has raced in two NCAA Championship's including a bronze medal performance in 2003. Fiesler was a member of the only Stanford boat to ever win a Pac-10 Championship (2003) in the history of Stanford Crew. Fiesler was also a member of the last Stanford boat(2002) to win the Stanford/Cal dual.
