Stanford Sweeps Pacific In MPSF Match Up

Stockton, Calif. - Junior Chris Ahlfeldt recorded a team-high 12 kills as the Stanford men's volleyball squad improved to 10-10 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a 3-0 win over Pacific in Stockton on Friday evening. Stanford's overall mark now stands at 11-12, while the Tigers fall to 12-16 and 6-14 in conference action.

The No. 10 ranked Cardinal got the match off to a good start, edging Pacific in a very tight first game, 30-27, while hitting .364 as a team. The second game proved to be even closer, as the period included 15 tie scores and seven lead changes. The Cardinal built an 11-4 lead early in the game and endured a fierce Tiger comeback to prevail with a 36-34 victory despite hitting just .189 as a team. The third game was more of the same, with Pacific hitting .433 as a team and coming from behind to tie the game at 29-29. The Cardinal benefited from a service error and an attack error to end the game and close out the three-game sweep.

Ahlfeldt led the team with 12 kills and hit a team-high .474 for the match. Senior David Vogel and junior Ben Reddy each pitched in with 11 kills, while senior Kevin Hansen recorded 41 assists and a team-high 10 digs.

Pacific's Nils Dauburs led all players with 17 kills, and Brian Zodrow recorded 16 kills for the Tigers. Mitch Hazelett registered a game-high 47 assists.

The Cardinal returns to The Farm for two matches against BYU in Maples Pavilion next weekend. Saturday night's match up with the Cougars will be televised on College Sports Television (CSTV).
