Stanford, Calif. - Top-seeded Stanford defeated Oregon, 4-0, this afternoon in the Second Round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship at the Taube Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University. The Cardinal improves to 23-0 on the year and extends its home win streak to 85 dual matches, dating back to 1999.
Stanford took the early lead in doubles action as Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey defeated Daria Panova and Dominka Dieskova, 8-4, on court one. The Cardinal clinched the doubles point as Joanna Kao and Theresa Logar won their first match together with an 8-5 victory on court three over Davina Mendiburu and Ester Bak.
In singles play, the Cardinal took wins on the back-three courts for the 4-0 victory. For the second-straight day, Yelsey led off with a win, taking a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Oregon's Ester Bak. Logar finished second on court four, with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Jamie Marshall. Freshman Whitney Deason clinched the Cardinal win on court five with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Anna Leksinska.
The Cardinal will head to Athens, Ga., on May 19-22 for the final four rounds of the championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Stanford will face Harvard in the Round of 16 at 9 a.m. (ET) on Thursday, May 19. The Crimson upset 16th-seeded Tennessee, 4-1, in Cambridge this afternoon.
