Tweedie-Yates eliminates former doubles partner to post TCU's best-ever showing
TCU senior Story Tweedie-Yates defeated her former part-time Stanford doubles partner Theresa Logar in the round of 16 of doubles play. Tweedie-Yates was a member of the Cardinal's national championship teams of 2003 and 2004 before transferring to TCU. A year ago, Tweedie-Yates and Logar combined to post a 10-1 record in doubles action, including winning the doubles championship at the Pac-10 Invitational. Tweedie-Yates becomes the first TCU player to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships.

Tweedie-Yates has also teamed with Ana Cetnik to become the first doubles team from TCU to ever advance to the quarterfinals. The pair defeated 5-8 seed Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame on Wednesday to move on.

Top seeds disappearing
Now in the quarterfinals of the singles draw, only half of the top eight seeds remain. Second seed Julie Coin, No. 3 Audra Cohen, No. 4 Aibika Kalsarieva and No. 5 Jennifer Magley are onto the quarters. Magley and Kalsarieva will play each other on Thursday for the only pairing of ranked singles players.

On the doubles court, three of the top four seeds remain and the one that's out is top seeded Georgia. The duo of Caroline Basu and Shadisha Robinson fell to Stanford's Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette in the Round of 16. It is the first time the top seeded doubles team has not qualified for the quarters since 1994 when the Georgia team of Michelle Anderson and Angela Lettiere withdrew before the start of the tourney due to an Anderson foot injury. In 1993 the No. 1 doubles team of Keirsten Alley and Pam Nelson of Cal lost in the second round.

Stanford eliminated from singles draw
With Anne Yelsey falling to Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova in the Round of 16, Stanford will not have a representative in the quarterfinals of the NCAA singles draw for the first time in the history of the event. Yelsey, Stanford's No. 6 singles player during the team portion of the tournament, didn't go without a fight. Zemenova won the match in three sets, 6-4,6-7(3),7-5. In the team finals, Stanford won its 14th national title and in the doubles championships the Cardinal teams of Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette and Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey have advanced to the quarterfinals. It is the seventh time Stanford has advanced multiple doubles teams to the quarterfinals. The list of schools that has sent more than one doubles team to the quarters in one year reads: Stanford (7), Florida (3), Miami (2), Trinity (1) and UCLA (1).

BCS Championship
The Southeastern Conference is the only remaining league with two representatives left in the quarterfinals of the singles draw.
