Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey, Stanford
Amber Liu: "My shoulder still hurts a little, but it's been easier this week. There's been a lot less tennis and a lot less serving. We definitely won't pull out or anything because of the pain. I am very pleased with how it's come along. I think it would be just as much of a thrill to win the doubles title as it would be winning the singles title. I feel good that a Stanford team will win the doubles title. I think it says a lot about how much our doubles has improved since last year."
Anne Yelsey: "We're thrilled that we're both in the finals but it's always tough playing against teammates, so it's bittersweet for whoever wins. I mean when you win you want to celebrate because you're happy but you're also sad that you just beat your close friend. I think that doubles is a completely different game. I like it because you can relax and joke around on the court. I enjoy doubles because you have someone with you."
No. 2 Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier, Northwestern (Upset by Liu/Yelsey)
Audra Cohen: "All year long we had great chemistry. We knew we clicked right away after playing together in the fall. We seem to play very well together."
Cristelle Grier: "Stanford played a very solid doubles game. We really couldn't find a way through it. They were not spectacular, nothing really special just solid. We love playing together. I think since we have such different game styles we can combine to do well. Audra hits very hard and heavy from the baseline and hopefully I can do enough from the net."
Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette, Stanford
Alice Barnes: "This was a tight match. People made a big deal about playing our ex-teammate (Tweedie-Yates), but we got past that. We had a tough second set, but we didn't give it away. We were down 5-1 but we ended up making it 5-3 before they won it, and that was big. There is a big difference for us between losing 6-1 and losing 6-3. Then we got off to a rocky start in the third set but we turned it around. We've played the other Stanford team a bunch of times in practice. We are all good friends. At least there will be a Stanford winner."
Erin Burdette: "I never expected so much top-spin lobbing, especially off of returns. We didn't really have an answer for it, they just kind of stopped doing it."
Ana Cetnik and Story Tweedie-Yates, TCU (Lost to Barnes/Burdette)
Story Tweedie-Yates: "I'm happy we made it as far as we did. We had a great week. I really enjoyed playing with Ana all year long. I think this tourney run was a great way to end."
Dave Borelli, TCU Head Coach: "Our team had a great year and these girls played tough for us throughout. This year was the first time since 1981 that our team finished in the top-20. I think we have really arrived as a team. We will surely miss Story next year, but I think overall we will have a better team. I hope next year's team can have the same sort of special chemistry that this year's team had. We were blessed with a good group of kids this year."
