First Day Of NCAA Waco Regional Postponed Due To Weather

June 3, 2005

Waco, Tex. - The first day of the NCAA Waco regional scheduled for Friday at Baylor Ballpark has been postponed due to weather conditions. Third-seed Stanford (32-23) and second-seed No. 24 Texas Christian (40-18) will now open the event on Saturday, June 4 (2 pm, CT/12 pm, PT). Top-seeded host and No. 8 Baylor (39-21) will take on Texas-San Antonio (27-32) following the Stanford-TCU game on Saturday at 7 pm, CT/5 pm, PT.

The postponement of action on the first day of the regional has caused a modification in the remainder of the regional schedule. There will now be three games slated for the second day of the regional on Sunday. The losers of Saturday's contests will start a busy Sunday with an elimination game (Game 3) at 11 am, CT/9 am, PT. Saturday's winners will matchup in a winners' bracket game (Game 4) Sunday at 2 pm, CT/12 pm, PT. The Game 3 winner and Game 4 loser will play an elimination contest (Game 5) Sunday at 7 pm, CT/5 pm, PT.

The first championship game (Game 6) will pit the Game 4 and Game 5 winners on Monday at 2 pm, CT/12 pm, PT. A second championship game (Game 7), if necessary, would also be played Monday and begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first championship contest. The second championship game would be necessary if the winner of Game 5 defeats the winner of Game 4 in the first championship contest.

The decision to postpone the regional, made jointly by the NCAA office in Indianapolis and the regional coordinators, was made with the integrity of the regional and fairness to all participants in mind.

The winner of the Waco regional will advance to a super regional versus the winner of the Clemson regional, which features the host Tigers (39-21), along with College of Charleston (47-13), Oral Roberts (40-18) and North Carolina A&T (27-25).

Eight super regionals consisting of 16 regional winners will be held from Friday, June 10 - Monday, June 13. Super regional hosts along with specific dates and times will be announced on the ESPN Bottom Line on Tuesday, June 7 (9 am, PT).

Super regional winners will make up the eight-team field for the 59th College World Series to be held Friday, June 17 - Monday, June 27, at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.

Friday's postponement marks the ninth time Stanford has had a contest moved back due to weather conditions in a soggy 2005 campaign. Stanford's scheduled season-opener versus Fresno State on January 28, as well as games against Kansas (February 11), California (February 25), Pacific (March 19), San Jose State (March 22), Oregon State (April 8), Washington (April 23) and California (May 8) were also postponed due to rain or wet weather conditions. All of the contests other than the San Jose State game were made up.
