College Park, MD - American Freshman Irene Schickhardt scored her third goal of the season in the 43rd minute as the Eagles (5-0) defeated Stanford, 1-0 in College Park, MD at the Maryland Invitational. Schickhardt scored unassisted, firing off a shot across the goal after dribbling into the circle.

Neither team scored during the first half of play, with American and Stanford combining for seven shots in the first period. American tallied eight shots during the game, while Stanford followed with seven shots. Shickhardt led the Eagles with three shots and teammate Maureen Daniel contributed a pair of shots. Stanford had seven players contributing a shot for the Cardinal.

"We played really well against American today", said head coach Lesley Irvine. "We felt like we really out-played them, but we need to work on our finish. Our girls dominated a good majority of the game, but we didn't come out on top at the end."

Stanford recorded four penalty corners, including three in the second half. American followed with three penalty corners, all in the first half of the game.

Madison Bell notched four saves, all in the first period, against the Eagles. American's Allison Fayfich recorded two saves in her first shutout of the season.

Stanford plays again at the Maryland Invitational on Sunday, August 11 (3:00 pm, ET) versus the Maryland Terrapins. The Terrapins enter the competition with a 6-0 record, picking up a 4-2 win today against California.
