#4 Stanford Claims Victory Over #20 UC Santa Cruz, 16-3

Stanford, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford (3-0) capped off the weekend with a 16-3 victory over the 20th ranked UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (1-4). The Cardinal took a quick lead with the first goal only 18 seconds into the game and closed out the first period with a 7-1 lead over Santa Cruz. Five different Stanford players scored in the first period alone before powering through the second quarter with a 5-0 run. In the third period, Santa Cruz netted their second goal of the game and Stanford grabbed two more goals. Andrew Drake and Steven Wright both scored their first goals of the day for Stanford in the fourth quarter to cap off the victory.

Ten Stanford players scored today with Thomas Hopkins and Peter Varellas leading the pack at three goals each. William Hindle-Katel scored two goals, and Andrew Drake, J.J. Garton, Forrest Schwartz, Marcello Pantuliano, Tyler Drake, Steven Wright, Peter Finlayson, and Michael Bury all netted one goal each. Three goalies split the game with James Sandman starting with 2 saves, Beau Stockstill came in for the third period to earn 2 saves, and David Carlson closed out the game with 2 saves of his own.

Santa Cruz split their three goals between Michael Quacinella with a goal in the first, Sean Berton-Sniderman snagging a goal in the third, and William Sause netting one in the fourth quarter. Banana Slugs goalie Joseph Lyons finished the day with 12 saves.

The Cardinal play at the SoCal Tournament at UC Irvine next weekend. Stanford plays their first game of the tournament against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, September 17 (10:20AM).
