College Park, MD - Freshman Caroline Hussey scored three goals and had one assist for the Cardinal as it shut out Bucknell, 6-0, in College Park.
Freshman Bailey Richardson scored Stanford's first goal at 20:27, her second goal of the season, off of assists by Aska Sturdevan and Lyndsay Erickson. Hussey followed with two unassisted goals within five minutes to put the Cardinal up, 3-0, heading into halftime.Junior Liz Robinson scored at 41:30 off of an assist by Hussey, her second goal of the season. Capping off a stellar game, Hussey completed a hat trick at 57:48 with a third unassisted goal. Sturdevan tallied the final goal for Stanford off of a penalty corner, assisted by Missy Halliday and Erickson, with no time remaining on the clock.
"It was great that we bounced back from our loss to Maryland," said head coach Lesley Irvine. "The score finally reflected the game and how we possessed the ball. It was nice to put some of our chances away. Caroline Hussey had a great game and is contributing wonderfully as a freshman."
Stanford out shot the Bison, 24-4, including 18 shots in the first half. Hussey led the Cardinal with six shots. Robinson, Missy Halliday and Julia Drewes each contributed three shots for Stanford. Jess Zutz, Lyndsay Erickson and Bailey Richardson each had a pair of shots. Four players tallied a shot for the Bison.
Stanford picked up eight penalty corners, including five in the first half, while Bucknell had a pair of corners.
Madison Bell tallied one save for Stanford against the Bison. Bucknell's Liz Jordan notched 10 saves in 41 minutes of play.
"We finished offensively as we haven't been doing before," said Hussey. "We were really strong, working the sidelines well. We wanted to go into our game against Cal roaring, and this game set us up really nicely."
Hussey now leads the Cardinal in scoring with four goals for the season. Halliday and Erickson pace the team with two assists each.
Stanford returns to the Bay ready to play California in Berkeley on Saturday, September 17. Start time has been moved from 1:00 pm, PT to 5:00 pm, PT.
