Knoxville, Tenn. - Stanford picked up a 1-0 win over Tennessee this evening at the Regal Soccer Complex in Knoxville. The Cardinal improves to 3-2-1 on the season, while Tennessee falls to 1-4-1 on the year.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Lizzy George scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute off an assist from Leah Tapscott. Tonight's goal is the second for George this season and the seventh in her career.
Freshman goalie Alex Gamble notched her second shutout of the season, logging 90 minutes in the net and picking up three saves.
The Cardinal will face No. 14 Texas A&M on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (ET) at the Regal Soccer Complex. The Aggies defeated Washington, 6-0, earlier tonight in Knoxville to improve to 4-1-1 on the year.
