Berkeley, Calif. - After 65 scoreless minutes, Fr. Andrea Lo scored California's only goal off of a penalty corner to put the Bears ahead, 1-0, over Stanford. Jr. Valentina Godfrid assisted the goal, Lo's first of the season.

"We played a hard game today," said head coach Lesley Irvine. "It was a very competitive game that could have gone either way. We played them well, but didn't convert our offensive opportunities. The defense had a fabulous game. Our captains were very inspirational to the rest of the team. Tammy Shuer anticipated well and had a great game."

Sr. co-captain Tammy Shuer picked up her first defensive save of the season in the 67th minute. Shuer's save was the Cardinal's first of the season.

The Bears out shot the Cardinal, 9-3, led by Godfrid with four shots.

Liz Robinson took two shots for the Cardinal, followed by Caroline Hussey with one shot.

California picked up three penalty corners, all in the second half.Soph. Madison Bell tallied one save in the second half of the game.

Stanford will play one remaining game of a six-game road trip versus Pacific on Sunday, September 25 (1:00 pm, PT) before returning home. The Cardinal will take on Pacific a second time on Saturday, October 1 (1:00 pm, PT) at home on the Varsity Field Hockey Turf.
