Cardinal Men Shut Out UAB For 1-0 Victory

Stanford, Calif. - Cardinal Galen Thompson notched his second goal of the season to lead the Stanford men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over UAB tonight at the Nike Classic at Maloney Field. Stanford improves to 3-4-1 on the year while the Blazers drop to 5-3-0.

Thompson (Denver, CO) found the back of the net for the Cardinal in the 39th minute with some help from Evan Morgan (Littleton, CO) and Bret Shimizu (Roy, UT).

The Cardinal outshot the Blazers nine to five for the game while junior keeper Andrew Kartunen (San Juan Capistrano, CA) made two saves in goal. Kartunen notched his third shutout of the season tonight against UAB and ninth of his career.

Stanford opens up conference play next week at San Diego State on Friday, September 30 at 4 p.m.
