No. 14 Stanford Shuts Out San Francisco for 2-0 Win

San Francisco, Calif. - No. 14 Stanford picked up its second-straight win this afternoon with a 2-0 victory over San Francisco at Negoesco Stadium. Cardinal senior Leah Tapscott added her second goal of the season in the 20th minute, scoring the game-winner for the second time in as many games. Stanford improves to 2-1 on the season, while the Lady Dons fall to 1-3 on the year.

Tapscott scored the game-winning goal on an assist from freshman Marisa Abegg to put Stanford up 1-0. In the 45th minute the Cardinal added an insurance goal, as sophomore midfielder April Wall scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from freshman Kelley Birch.

Goalie Alex Gamble completed the first shutout of her collegiate career and picked up two saves in the match.

The Cardinal will return to USF's Negoesco Stadium next weekend, as Stanford faces No. 13 Illinois at 5 p.m. on Friday and No. 2 North Carolina on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
