Stanford, Calif. - After trailing the entire game, the Syracuse Orange (1-1) scored in overtime to top Stanford, 3-2. Senior Paige Sullivan scored the winning goal off of a free hit pass from Michelle Sola.
Stanford took an early lead in the first period when sophomore Jess Zutz dribbled into the circle to score unassisted at 21:47, her third goal of the season. Syracuse tied the game as Meg Ryan scored the first goal for the Orange unassisted at 24:55. Freshman Caroline Hussey put Stanford back in the lead when she scored off of a pass from fellow freshman Hillary Braun at 34:07 before heading into the second half.
Stanford and Syracuse ended regulation tied, 2-2, after Syracuse's Ashley Fry scored on a penalty stroke. Sullivan's game-winning goal in overtime was her first of the season.
Jess Zutz led the Cardinal with five shots as Stanford out shot Syracuse 19-16. Zutz has tallied 14 shots for the season. Caroline Hussey followed with a career-high four shots. Junior Michelle Sola led the Orange with seven shots.
Madison Bell recorded a career-high eight saves in the goal, while Syracuse's Heather Hess notched six saves.
The Orange tallied a season-high nine penalty corners to Stanford'sthree.
Stanford plays the final game of a five-game homestand with a non-conference game against Michigan State tomorrow, September 5 (10:00 am, PT).
