Oregon 44, at Stanford 20 (Stanford, CA - Stanford Stadium)
October 1, 2005
STANFORD
Head Coach Walt Harris
"We got beat by a good football team today. We don't like to lose to anybody, but we lost to a good team today. They had big guys and a good quarterback. We battled them, ran the ball better today, which we were excited about. Trent (Edwards) hung in there and Mark Bradford stepped up and played more like we know he can."
"As a coach, I'm opportunistically looking for the bright side. A coach tries to pull the best out of his players. Our job is to get our players to respond, their job is to try to improve."
Quarterback Trent Edwards
"Oregon came out with a lot of intensity in the second half. They're really well coached and worked hard in the offseason, just like we did. They were finding loopholes in our protection."
"I need to find a way to help our guys play better. That's what the position entails. Football is a sport where you have to trust in your teammates."
OREGON
Head Coach Mike Belotti
"I was very pleased with our team and especially our defense in the second half. I think we limited them to 15 or 20 yards in the entire second half. I'm not sure if they got any touchdowns but the one on the blocked punt. I was really pleased with the way our defense came out to play that second half. We overcame some of our own mistakes. The offense continued to move the football. We probably should have scored 60 points. I'm frustrated by that, I'm frustrated by the penalties, there were way too many. Some of them were penalties of aggression. I can appreciate that, I don't condone it but I can appreciate it. Our kicking game needs a ton of work -- we can't make PAT's. I've never been on a football situation in my life where we couldn't make PAT's, and that's an issue right now."
"We contained them and kept them in the pocket that second half and that's what made the difference. We pressured them the first half but gave them escape routes on the outside, and that was very frustrating. We learned that we were getting a little bit greedy, and we've got to maintain our composure and leverage. We did that the second half."
Wide Receiver Demetrius Williams
"As the week went on, guys just got real hungry. They had a bad game against Davis, and they were hungry and we were hungry, we lost to (U)SC. We could have played a lot better. I think we came out there and gave it our all. It's always important to get a big win; it boosts your confidence and lets other people know that these guys are for real."
Quarterback Kellen Clemens
"Penalties killed us and let them a little closer. We can't have those kind of penalties. The defense played well, pitched a second half shutout, which is awesome. We're excited. (Having a) 4-1 (record) is pretty good right now, getting ready to go play the Devils. We have a talented group and a lot of depth too."
On the penalties
"Some guys are going to be running come Monday. We just can't do it."
