Stanford Falls To No. 1 Wake Forest, 6-1

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest scored three goals in the first 12 minutes as the No. 1 Demon Deacons (12-0) topped the Cardinal, 6-1, at home.

Fr. Michelle Kasold put Wake Forest on the board early with a goal at 1:56, assisted by Jr. Haley Scott. Jr. Kristi Harshman scored again for the Demon Deacons at 6:29, off of a rebounded shot by teammate Lauren Crandall. Kasold scored a second goal unassisted at 12:35 after dribbling into the circle, putting the Deacons ahead, 3-0.

Kasold took another shot at 26:26, but the attempt was saved by Sr. defender Tammy Shuer, her second defensive save of the season. Sr. Kelly Wood attempted a shot during a penalty corner at 26:53, but was denied as Jr. Aska Sturdevan recorded her first and the team's fourth defensive save of the season.

Crandall earned her first goal of the season off of a penalty shot at 30:27. Fr. Christine Suggs scored before the end of the half on a penalty corner, assisted by Crandall, to put the Decons ahead, 5-0.

Wake Forest didn't score again until 60:44 when Jr. Tracy Scott knocked the ball in, assisted by Crandall from the top of the circle. Sr. Missy Halliday scored in the 61st minute during Stanford's third consecutive penalty corner, her third goal of the season.

Wake Forest out shot the Cardinal, 23-6, led by Crandall with six shots. Scott and Kasold each tallied four shots for the Demon Deacons. Halliday led the Cardinal in shooting with two shots.

Wake Forest recorded 10 penalty corners, scoring on one corner. Stanford earned three corners, all in the second half, scoring on its last corner of the game.

So. goalkeeper Madison Bell entered the game at 9:51 and tallied 10 saves. Wake Forest's Kristina Gagliardi and Crystal Duffield each played one half of the game, with Duffield recording four saves during the second half.

Stanford returns home for a NorPac Conference matchup with Longwood on Saturday, October 15 (1:00 pm, PT).
