Stanford, Calif. - Stanford (6-3-1) picked up a 2-0 win over Colorado College (6-4-3) this afternoon at Maloney Field to secure the 2005 Stanford Nike Invitational crown. Sophomore Rachel Buehler scored her second game-winning goal of the year, after netting her first goal of the season against Santa Clara on Friday night.
Buehler headed in the game-winner after Hayley Hunt found her in the corner of the box in the eighth minute. Sophomore Lizzy George tacked on her third goal of the year in the 80th minute, as April Wall found her in front of the cage after a free kick.
Freshman keeper Alex Gamble posted her fourth shutout of the season and picked up one save, while Colorado College goalie Geneva Sills recorded five saves and allowed two goals.
Stanford will be at home again next weekend, as the Cardinal open Pac-10 play with Washington State at 7 p.m. on Friday and Washington at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Cardinal's match versus the Huskies next Sunday, October 9 will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
