Tucson, Ariz. - Stanford lost a 2-1 decision to Arizona this afternoon, dropping the Cardinal to 8-5-2 overall with a 2-2-1 mark in the Pac-10. Freshman Kate Mannino scored the Cardinal's lone goal, while Mallory Miller scored both of the Wildcats' goals.
Miller scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute, but the Cardinal came back to tie it up in the 56th minute, as Mannino took the feed from Lizzy George. Miller netted the game winner in the 79th minute.
"They scored on a penalty kick and then a free kick - it was great shot by Miller, but it's hard when a debatable call decides a game," noted head coach Paul Ratcliffe, "But we played well and we had chances."
Sophomore Erica Holland made her second-straight start in goal and collected seven saves, while Arizona's McCall Smith recorded 10 saves in the match.
Stanford will return home next weekend, when the Cardinal will host USC and No. 4 UCLA at Maloney Field.
