Cardinal Caps Regular Season With Win Over Radford, 3-2

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford (6-12, 4-2) finished the regular season with a conference win today over Radford, 3-2, during Senior Day. Fr. Caroline Hussey scored two goals for the Cardinal, while Julia Drewes scored one goal.

Drewes put Stanford on the board first after sinking a penalty stroke at 2:23 in the first half. Stanford regained possession and Hussey scored on the next drive to the goal, notching her eighth goal of the season. Radford's Meredith Evans answered with an unassisted goal at 4:51, scoring across the goal to the right corner. Hussey continued the early scoring streak, sinking a goal during a penalty corner at 6:05, assisted by Fr. Bailey Richardson.

Cortney Brown scored again for the Highlanders at 28:31 during a penalty corner, assisted by Tiffany Church and Kiera Gambeski. The score remained 3-2 through the second half with Stanford claiming the conference victory.

"We were happy to get the win today," said head coach Lelsey Irvine. "It was good timing heading into the conference championship, a good confidence booster. I am very happy for our seniors and pleased that we finished in the top three teams in our conference based upon this win."

The Cardinal out shot the Highlanders, 20-8. Zutz and Drewes led the team in shooting with four shots each. Cortney Brown led Radford with four shots.

Stanford earned six penalty corners to Radford's three, scoring on a corner in the sixth minute. The Cardinal continues to tally more penalty corners than its opponents, 94-84.

Stanford goalkeeper Madison Bell notched two saves today, both in the second half. Bell has tallied 54 saves this season. Radford's Amy Dietz nabbed seven saves for the Highlanders, four in the first half.

Radford's Kiera Gambeski picked up the only defensive save of the game, her sixth defensive save of the season.

Stanford will travel to Berkeley for the 2005 NorPac Championship, playing Appalachian State in the first round on Thursday, November 3 (2:30 pm, PT). If Stanford wins, they will advance to play California at 3:00 pm on Friday. Radford is set to meet Davidson on Thursday at 12:00 pm, PT.
