Davidson, NC - Sr. co-captain Lyndsay Erickson scored two goals off of two shots for the Cardinal en route to a 5-1 victory over Davidson (2-7, 0-3) in North Carolina. Jr. Jaime Hais, Bailey Richardson and Caroline Hussey each contributed a goal for Stanford.
Hais scored Stanford's first goal of the game right away at 1:22 from short range to the opposite corner, her first goal of the season. At 5:17, Erickson scored unassisted off of a rebound in front of the net. Richardson scored off of a corner play at 8:11, assisted by Sr. Missy Halliday.
In the second half, Erickson scored again immediately during a corner play, also assisted by Halliday. Davidson So. Catherine Ransone answered with the Wildcats' only goal at 48:08, unassisted during a scramble in front of the net. Hussey scored her sixth goal of the season unassisted at 52:18 to put the Cardinal ahead, 5-1.
"It was great to bounce back from our game versus Pacific," said head coach Lesley Irvine. "We played a consistent 70 minutes today, and scoring three goals early on was good for us. We were pleased to play a good second half and to have everyone get in the game and gain valuable experience. We were also pleased with our corner execution, because we knew that would be critical in this game."
The Cardinal out shot the Wildcats, 22-6, led by Aska Sturdevan with six shots. Hussey, Jess Zutz and Liz Robinson also contributed three shots. So. Eleanor Cowley led Davidson with two shots.
Stanford earned an impressive 10 penalty corners, scoring on three, while Davidson collected four penalty corners.
Davidson goalkeeper Rachel Kiselewich tallied six of the Wildcats' seven saves during 65 minutes of play. Fr. goalkeeper Sarah Scheller made her third collegiate start, with no saves.
The Cardinal remains in North Carolina for two more games, playing No. 3 North Carolina on Sunday, October 9 (1:00 pm, ET) and No. 1 Wake Forest on Monday, October 10 (3:00 pm, ET).
