Stanford, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford (6-2) swept a non-conference doubleheader over previously unbeaten Kansas (6-2) on Saturday at Sunken Diamond, winning the first game by a score of 7-3 before coming up with a 9-2 win in the nightcap. Mark Romanczuk (2-1) picked up his 25th career victory on mound in the opener to move into a tie for 10th place on the school's all-time win list, allowing just two runs on six hits over the first 7.1 innings. In the nightcap, John Mayberry Jr. keyed a seven-run Cardinal fifth with a three-run homer and Jeff Gilmore (2-0) picked up the win on the hill by limiting the Jayhawks to two runs (one earned) and four hits over the first 7.0 frames.
"It was nice to get a doubleheader sweep," said Stanford head coach Mark Marquess. "(Jeff) Gilmore really kept us in that second game until we could come up with the big inning and Mark Romanczuk gave us a solid effort in the first contest."

Romanczuk gave up just two runs on six hits over the first 7.1 innings, striking out six and walking two. Greg Reynolds closed out the game for the Cardinal by pitching the final 1.2 innings, allowing one run and one hit with a strikeout.
John Hester (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) and Jim Rapoport (3-4, 2B) had three hits each to lead the Cardinal offense in the opener, while Chris Lewis homered and drove in a pair of runs.
Gus Milner (2-3, 2 HR) hit a pair of solo homers for the Jayhawks, while Matt Baty (3-5, 2 2B, RBI) had three hits and doubled twice.
Kansas starter Sean Land (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and six walks with six strikeouts over the first 6.0 innings.
In the nightcap, Gilmore struck out six and walked two before Matt Leva came on to pitch the final 2.0 frames of relief without giving up a run to extend his streak of scoreless innings to start the campaign to 8.1. Leva allowed three hits and walked a batter but got out of an eighth inning bases loaded no outs jam by striking out A.J. Van Slyke and forcing Milner into an inning-ending double play. He also allowed a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Travis Dunlap in the ninth before pinch-hitter Brock Simpson hit into Kansas' second double play in as many innings.
Adam Sorgi (2-4) was the only Stanford player with more than one hit in the second contest, while Hester and Michael Taylor each drove in a pair of runs.
Ritchie Price (2-4, 2B, RBI) and Sean Richardson (2-4, RBI) had two-hit games for the Jayhawks in the nightcap.
Kansas starter Clint Schambach (0-1) took the loss in game two despite holding the Cardinal scoreless on just one hit for the first five innings. Schambach (5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB) faced four Stanford batters in the sixth without recording an out and left the game with the score tied 2-2 before he was relieved by Michael Fitch, who allowed Mayberry's three-run shot to put the Cardinal ahead to stay.
Stanford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opener with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Hester started the rally with a one out single, moved to second when Jed Lowrie drew a walk and scored on an RBI single by Mayberry. After a walk to Chris Minaker loaded the bases, Sorgi brought home Lowrie with a sacrifice fly.
The Cardinal made it 3-0 in the second inning with an unearned run. Ryan Seawell walked to lead off the frame, moved to second on a balk by Land and third on a throwing error by Richardson behind the plate before scoring on Hester's fielders choice.
Kansas got one run back on a solo homer by Milner with one out in the fourth.
Lewis came back with his third homer in two games in the fifth, a two-run shot with two outs that doubled the Cardinal lead to 5-1. Sorgi drew a two-out walk in front of Lewis to keep the inning alive.
Milner answered with his second solo homer in as many at bats with out in the sixth to pull the Jayhawks within 5-2 but Stanford again had an answer with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Rapoport led off the Cardinal sixth with a double and scored on a one-out RBI double by Hester two batters later. Lowrie singled to put runners on first and third and Minaker came up with a clutch RBI single two batters later to plate Hester.
The Jayhawks finished the scoring in the opener with a ninth inning run when Dunlap was hit by a pitch. Pinch-runner Derek Bailey then moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Baty's second double of the contest before Reynolds got the final two outs to end the contest.Kansas came out of the gates in the nightcap with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The rally started when Andy Scholl's one-out fly ball was dropped by Taylor in right field. Ritchie Price then singled home Scholl from second, moved to second when Mike Dudley drew a walk and scored on an RBI single by Richardson.
Schambach kept the Cardinal scoreless until Stanford finally broke out with a seven-run sixth frame. After retiring 11 straight batters, Schambach gave up a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Brendan Domaracki. Taylor then beat out an infield hit and Hester tied the game at 2-2 when he brought both runners home with a double down the left field line. Schambach was removed after the game when he walked Lowrie before Mayberry's three-run homer off Fitch. Minaker then drew a walk before Jacob Jean entered the game for the Jayhawks, then stole second, moved to third on a single by Sorgi and scored on an RBI fielders choice by Lewis. Sorgi moved up to second on the play on an error by Jayhawk second baseman Ryne Price, advanced to third when Rapoport hit into a fielders choice and scored the final run of the inning two batters later on a sacrifice fly from Taylor.
Stanford finished the day's scoring with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth. Sorgi reached on Ryne Price's third error of the game to lead off the frame and moved to second on an infield single by Lewis before Rapoport sacrificed the runners to second and third. Jeff Boes brought home Sorgi with his first collegiate hit and Lewis scored on a fielders choice by Taylor.
The doubleheader sweep marked the sixth consecutive twin bill the Cardinal has swept since UCLA split a pair of games with the Cardinal on April 7, 2001.
The teams will conclude the three-game series on Sunday (11 am, PT). RHP Nolan Gallagher (0-1, 1.80) is scheduled to make his first career start for Stanford, while Kansas is scheduled to pitch LHP Mike Zagurski (0-0, 0.00).
